I "Invite" you to take a glimpse at my newest design adventure.

Hello everyone!  I've been experimenting with a new area of design: invitaions and cards.  My imagination and mind is resltless yet again and I can't seem to produce as fast as I imagine but I have managed to get a few of those ideas out and the more I do, the more ideas I imagine.  So as this is just the beginning of my adventure in invitaion and card design, i hope you take a peek at the new section named Invitations/Cards to see some of what I have been working on.

Also please contact me if you would like to purchase any of the cards or if you are interested in using one of the invitation designs for your own event.  You can also contact me if you would like a custom card or invitaion designed.

Welcome

Welcome to inkBlog.

You don't have to look far to experience design; it is a part of our daily lives, sometimes it's subtle and sometimes it's quite obvious. From, magazines to the mail you receive, from packaging of products you buy to the very products themselves, from the websites to the software you use; the architecture that surrounds you to the presentation and combinations of food that we are served by chefs who artists in there own right.  Design and art is a part of us, it is a medium of expression.  It is used to express views and inform, it is used to evoke emotions and sentiment, it is used to propagate and sometimes it is used simply to be seen and left for the observer to contemplate and discover what it means to them.

A few words come to mind when I think of blogs: sharing of information, discussions, inspiration.  In the spirit of these words, I invite you to discover, discuss, comment, contribute and share your inspirations and thoughts as I look forward to sharing with you some of my inspirations, thoughts and work!

Exploring Pointillism with "A Butterfly's Feast"

As an artist, shadow and light has always been a subject of interest and experimentation with me.  I have found that pointillism is an excellent way of illustrating shadow and light without the use of lines but instead with shading.  Pointillism involves placing dots or strokes of unblended color alongside each other to create an illusion when seen from afar.

The technique of pointillism, also called Divisionism, was made known by Georges Seurat, who was himself influenced by Delacroix and other impressionists.  He was fascinated by the study of color and researched it with passion.  His study of color reveals the outcome of placing colors next to each other particularly complimentary colors which when combined results in different tints causing the shadow and light effects.

One of his greatest works, La Grande Jatte, displays this technique beautifully. He sought vibrance from separate colors intensively activated by the texture and interaction with each other.

In the past I have experimented with pointillism in black & white but have been apprehensive in using color to convey shading.  After learning a little more about Seurat, I decided to experiment with color.  In this particular piece, “A Butterfly’s Feast”, I used pentel color pens to accomplish the dot-like patterns.  When looking at the drawing from afar I truly notice the patterns that the dots of color create and give a glow to the entire drawing.
